Westside Rheumatology is a private practice founded in 2018 by Dr Lynda Barnes. We work and live in the Western Suburbs, so we understand the local community. We care about supporting your wellbeing in the long term. In diagnosing your medical condition, we will consider your individual needs and preferences to give you a tailored management plan. By providing an accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment, we aim to support and improve your quality of life.

Meet our team

Dr Lynda Barnes

Principal Practitioner

Dr Lynda Barnes grew up in the greater Ipswich area and has lived in the Western suburbs of Brisbane for most of her life. She originally practised as a pharmacist before studying medicine to pursue her interest in inflammatory autoimmune rheumatic disease and musculoskeletal complaints. After advanced training, Dr Barnes returned to her roots in the Western Brisbane and Greater Ipswich region, setting up a private rheumatology practice to meet the needs of local patients.

Dr Barnes holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, as well as a Masters in Sports Medicine. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and a member of The Australian Rheumatology Association. In addition to her private practice, Dr Barnes is a Staff Specialist rheumatologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she also teaches medical students and junior doctors in training.

Dr Allison Waung is a consultant rheumatologist with a wealth of experience in healthcare and rheumatology. Completing a wide variety of training across the state allowed her to develop an interest and proficiency in a wide range of inflammatory autoimmune and connective tissue diseases. Her diverse experience has enhanced her understanding of the diverse needs of the Queensland population in terms of rheumatological care across the entire adult lifespan.

Dr Waung studied at the University of Queensland School of Medicine and completed her Basic Physician Training at the Mater Hospital Brisbane. She then went on to complete her Advanced Training in Rheumatology at an array of Queensland sites, including the Prince Charles Hospital, the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, the Caboolture Hospital, and the Gold Coast University Hospital. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and a member of The Australian Rheumatology Association.
